Another Allerpet Success Story!

This is the kind of email that just makes your day!  A customer wanted to get a kitten, but her Dad was allergic to cats. She didn’t want the kitten to keep her Dad from regular visits.  This is what she writes…..
“The first time Dad came over after I got the kitten, which happened to be the morning before I received your product, he did not stay long and said he needed to leave because his eyes and throat were starting to bother him.

Later that day, UPS came with your delivery and since that day, I have been putting the Allerpet/c solution on my kitten once a week.   Dad has been over twice since, and has not said anything nor seemed in a hurry to go.  I told him last visit to let me know if he was or wasn’t feeling any reaction so I’d know whether to bother with continuing to use the solution on my kitten.  So far, it seems to be going well.”

She also writes “Dad will be moving away, but I think I do have a slight sensitivity to cats myself as about on the 7th day my nose will start itching a bit so I think I would continue to use the Allerpet/c solution”
Once again, with the help of Allerpet/C people who are allergic to cats and cat lovers are living in harmony.
She went on to ask about another of the products we carry that is recommended for cat allergy, the ADMS Anti-Allergen Spray.  She had been thinking that she could use the two products in conjunction.  She was absolutely right!  When you apply the Allerpet/C to the cat, you catch the protein as it is still adhered to the animal.  When you use the AMDS, you are catching the protein that has already escaped the cat.  As a bonus, the ADMS works on dust mite, pollen, and mold allergens that may be lurking about also.
These kinds of stories are what keep you getting up the in the morning and doing what you do…helping others.

Must Be For Guys .. Gadgets For Dust Mite Allergies?

I just got this and it must have been written with guys in mind. Who calls vacuum cleaners and air purifiers gadgets except a guy. Read it for yourself

First of all, an air purifier is not your first line of defense. Keeping the allergens (pollen, grass, mold, etc) outside is the first thing you need to do. Change clothes as soon as you get in the house. Take your shoes off. Keep the windows closed. Get the idea.

Next the cheap filters, $99, will not last more than a year or two at best. You get what you pay for. Why does the Rabbit cost $400. Its a better filter.. Also they mention purifiers with UV for mold and bacteria. The only mold or bacteria the UV light kills is what gets caught on the filter. Don’t think for a moment they will kill the mold spores and bacteria in the room.

I’ll address the rest of the gadgets tomorrow.

Honoring Those Who Gave Their All

Today we won’t talk allergies.
Today we will talk about those who were willing to die so that we might live free.
Lets pause and remember what Memorial Day is really about.
Lots of places try to lay claim to being the home of Memorial Day.  It really doesn’t matter how it began, but begin it did, after the end of the Civil War (or the War of Northern Aggression as it was called when I was growing up). A nation that had lost so many needed a way to honor their dead. Women from the South and North decorated the graves of fallen soldiers. General John Logan issued a command that flowers were to be laid on the graves of soldiers at Arlington Cemetery on May 30, 1868.
Memorial Day didn’t become a national holiday observed on the last Monday in May until 1971.  Several southern states still honor the Confederate dead on a separate day.
So if you aren’t participating in a ceremony or attending a memorial service or decorating a soldier’s grave, then please take a moment.  Remember those brave men and women who believed so strongly in your liberty that they were willing to die to preserve it.  Remember how precious that liberty is and to resist those who would take it away.
Give thanks for the fallen..

Gardening with Allergies

Just because you have allergies doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy gardening.
Just follow these tips:
If you have allergies to pollen, try not to garden on clear, windy days. These are the days that the trees and grasses are releasing the most pollen.  While the skies may not seem as friendly when they are cloudy or the weather is damp, these are the most allergy-friendly times to garden if pollen is your trigger.
When you are finished in the garden, take a shower and change your clothes, and wash your hair. You don’t want to spread any pollen around the house.  Leave your gardening shoes outside. Also, don’t change clothes in your bedroom.  Changing your clothes after you garden will send molds and pollens into the air and they will then settle.  You don’t want them to settle on or around your bed.
If you are allergic to mold, be sure to wear a mask.  Many molds are found in the soil.  When you dig, pull weeds, hoe, or do other activities to disturb the soil, those molds can become airborne and inhaled. The Q-Mask is perfect for gardening.  It fits comfortably around the ears, the pleated design keeps the mask off your mouth so it doesn’t get hot, and the nose and cheek area is form fitting so it molds perfectly to your face.  If you wear glasses or sunglasses, the Q-Mask won’t cause them to fog up.
Wash your gloves frequently to remove any molds or pollens that may be captured.
Keep grass short. Mow grass before it has a chance to make pollen.
The showier the flower, the greater chances it produces yellow waxy pollen. These types of pollens are not generally the culprit when it comes to hay fever and seasonal allergies.  So, choose plants that attract bees or butterflies for pollination.
Flowers or vegetables, the choice is yours. Don’t use allergies as an excuse not to enjoy the outdoors.

Best Dust Mite Cover

What is the best dust mite cover?   Wow! We get that question many times a day.  It is sort of like asking “what is the best flavor of ice cream?” It is all a matter of preference.  My son loves cherry, I don’t. I love vanilla.

My daughter loves the satin feel of the fabric used to make our Bed Bug Mattress cover.  It is not my favorite. I like either the Linen or the AllerSoft 100% Cotton.

The best dust mite cover is the cover that you find the most comfortable.  If you are concerned about chemicals and want to support organic farmers, then the Certified Organic Cotton is the best dust mite cover for you.

If you need something thin and lightweight that can stand up to frequent washing then the Pristine Luxury fabric is for you.  If you like the feel of cotton, but need a heavy duty durable fabric, AllerSoft Cotton Blend is the best for you.

Every dust mite and bed bug proof mattress, duvet, and pillow cover we sell will give you protection against the common household allergens.  These include dust mites and their feces, animal dander, molds, pollens and cockroach bits.  If in addition to dust mite allergy protection, you need waterproof protection for the mattress, then you want a urethane coated fabric. The Linen or Bed Bug fabric would be best for you. The other fabrics do not offer waterproof protection, so they would not be the best.
When I help people choose a fabric, I ask them about the sheets that they like. If someone is an all cotton person, they won’t like the feel of the polyester fabrics. It doesn’t matter that Pristine has the smallest pore size, its not the best if you don’t like the way it feels so you take it off the bed.
Another consideration is how often you plan on washing your dust mite cover.. We recommend that you wash the covers at least once or twice a year.  Some people just like to wash more often. The more you want to wash the cover, the more polyester you need in the fabric. For such a person, the Pristine Luxury is the best dust mite cover.  If you want to wash often but need the feel of cotton, the AllerSoft Cotton Blend is the best dust mite cover.
Another consideration is fabric price. If Certified Organic Cotton is out of your price range, then it is not the best dust mite cover for you.
To sum it up, the best dust mite cover is one that meets your needs for washing, is pleasing to your touch, and fits in your budget.  As for the ice cream, I’ll take a single scoop of vanilla in a cup please.
