Dust Mite Spray – Which One is Best

The obvious answer is the one you will use. Just like so many other products we buy thinking they will fix our current problem, they no good if you don’t use them. There is not a dust mite spray on the market that you can spray once and forget about it.

Over the years I have found the products manufactured by a company call Allersearch Labs the most effective. They make 2 different sprays.

ADS Anti-allergen spray is a tannic acid based product so you need to be careful when using it on light/white color fabrics. This is one of the very first products ever introduced that dealt with allergens from dust mites, cat dander and pollen. Each treatment last about 90 days.

ADMS spray works on the same thing as the ADS, dust mites, dander and pollen, but is made for use on all water soluble fabrics. In the case of ADMS the treatment last about 30-40 days.

With both products more is not better. You do not need to soak the fabric. Just mist. If whatever you sprayed is damp 15 minutes later you used too much.

We have used the sprays on our dust ruffles, pillow shams, decorative bed spread, couch, chairs and in the car. I have heard of some people who have sprayed it on a rag and wiped down the walls.  The best thing to do is see what works for you.

Just keep in mind that no matter what you buy, if you don’t use it it won’t work. which

Miele Vacuum Cleaners – Mercedes of Vacuum Cleaners

I have to agree with Mike that Miele vacuum cleaners really are the Mercedes of vacuum cleaners. They are so well made they can last you 15 to 20 years. I know because my oldest one was purchased in 1998 and is still going strong. In fact it our daughter took it to college and it returned 4 years later dinged up but still sucking.

Patti also made quite a few good points in her article about the Miele vacuums. One oth the main ones is that they really are made for allergy sufferers. So many of the so called “Allergy Vacuums” actually spew the fine particles like dust, pollen, dust mite feces and mold back into the air. For those of us that have allergies that is a problem.

Please read Patti’s article “Why Buy Miele Vacuum Cleaners“. If nothing else you can see what you need when it comes to buying your next vacuum cleaner.

Choosing the Right HEPA Vacuum Cleaner

You and your needs are the most important considerations when you need one of the new hepa vacuum cleaners.  You can buy every vacuum cleaner there is and if it is too heavy or bulky and you don’t use it, what good is it to you? It will just sit in your closet or laundry room along with all the others you have bought and didn’t like.

Once you find one of the hepa vacuum cleaners you like, trust me on this, you will enjoy vacuuming your floors. You even get your husband to do it more often. Mine does.

First of all, to be called hepa, the vacuums filter must retain 99.97% of particles the size of .3 microns.  How small is . 3 microns? If the light is good and you are really looking closely, you may be able to see 30 microns but you can not see .3 microns.  So, you can appreciate how important a hepa filter is to those who have dust mite allergies and asthma.  These are the same type of filters are used in rooms that must be totally clean, such as hospital rooms.

You can choose one of the hepa vacuum cleaners in an upright, canister or stick broom style.

**Hepa Upright Vacuum:

This type of vacuum is good for carpeting and hard surfaces.  Another good benefit of the upright is that it can be stored more easily than the canister type.  On the down side, it is too heavy for some people to push around or take up steps.

**Hepa Canister Vacuum:

The canister vacuum is easy to pull around because of its wheels. If it has a long hose with it, you can put it in the center of the room and easily vacuum all types of flooring.  It will go from carpeting to smooth surfaces, corners, curtains, draperies, furniture and upholstery.  They are also nice for getting underneath pieces of furniture and will give you a feeling that the job is well done.

**Hepa Stick Vacuum:

For fast cleanups, the stick vacuums are good for daily use on hard surfaces and area rugs.  They are light, easy to clean after each use, and fun to use.

When you are searching online for hepa vacuum cleaners, you are going to find many to choose from with many different prices.  If you finally find the one you like, well made and enjoy using, it will probably last a fairly long time before you have to buy another one.

Most important thing, find the HEPA vacuum cleaner you will use.
